Kandji for the win

  • March 14, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The simplicity and ease of use of Kandji is its biggest advantage. Having the confidence and ability to easily spin up Blueprints with the right Library items to ensure a secure and seamless macOS experience are the main reason why we chose Kandji over Jamf Pro.
What do you dislike about the product?
The lack of ability to target individual computers or create groups is a glaring downside to Kandji. For such a simple solution, it seems like those would be obvious features to have.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are solving our need for providing a secure and seamless macOS experience for our overwhelmingly majority Mac users. The primary benefits are reduced time and resources dedicated to managing our Mac fleet.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you need a powerful and robust solution for Apple MDM without spending a ton of time and resources, Kandji is for you.

Simple to Implement & Maintain

  • March 10, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Simplicity - The blueprint concept is simple to understand and build.

Parameters - Kandji’s built in parameters can push a bunch of settings that aren’t easily enabled using Apple’s mdm specs. Especially useful for meeting compliance (ie SOC II) needs.

Passport - Easy to set up and roll out. Keeps laptop password in sync with Okta (and some other IDPs) password so user only has one password to remember and periodically change. Much easier to implement than Nomad/Connect.

Liftoff - Wonderful tool that displays exactly what is happening when provisioning a new machine. Allows for some customization of logos, links, etc. No need for DEPNotify, which is much more complicated to build.

macOS Updates - Prebuilt options for enforcing minor/major macOS updates are easy to implement. No need for a tool like Nudge.

Support - I ask a lot of questions and I’ve never had a bad experience. Easy to get a hold of support via chat and they always have clear, concise answers. The new ticketing portal makes it much easier to look at previous tickets than it used to be.
What do you dislike about the product?
No real reporting features. Current device view features don’t offer a lot of visibility and seem buggy in that custom views often don’t permanently save. There is a pretty robust API that can pull a lot of the information expected to be available in a reporting feature (ie FileVault status, are users standard or admin, etc) but using the API requires additional knowledge.

Notifications are often buggy and there is no way to easily acknowledge/clear them if no action is needed. As an example, I have machines stuck showing failed installs for MS OneNote via VPP. But OneNote is no longer assigned to the blueprint the machines are in so they don’t need OneNote installed and there is nothing to be concerned about and no action needed. The only way to clear the notification is to create a duplicate blueprint of the ones the machines are currently in, move the machines, allow time for the notification to clear, move the machines back to the original blueprint and then delete the duplicate blueprint. A simple clear button would be nice.

Blueprints are a great for keeping things simple but can be restricting as your company, and therefore your complexity, grows. With no concept of applying software or settings to users or any type of smart group, applying software or settings in “one off” situations means creating duplicate blueprints. Real world example, we have one user on our marketing team that needs Final Cut and Compressor which we purchase via VPP. Without spinning off the single user into a new bleuprint, there is no guarantee that another user in the blueprint won’t install the single purchased copy of either software from Self Service before the intended user. Second example, without the ability to apply software to a smart group built on provisioning date, we don’t have a simple way to implement setting the dock for newly provisioned machines without also changing the dock for existing machines.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We are growing quickly and onboarding about 30 new Mac users per month. Kandji let us get Macs out the door to new hires quickly and with a minimum of fuss.

Kandji also helps keep us in compliance with our security requirements and makes general day to day Mac management easy.

An excellent MDM for your macOS environments.

What do you like best about the product?
Unlike other MDMs I have worked with Kandji can deploy apps and set the security permissions they require to function properly. Kandji makes it very easy to keep your end-users apps and OS up to date. It's also very easy to learn and use. Switching to Kandji has made my life easier.
What do you dislike about the product?
The migration agent used to migrate away from my old MDM only worked on about half of the macOS devices I have so I had about 50 manual enrollments to do. However, some of this was caused by how poorly my old MDM managed macOS devices.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We had a problem with pushing out software that requires security permissions. We had to manually touch every device for some software deployments. So far Kandji has not had a single problem pushing out apps and keeping them up to date. I feel like I have control over our macOS devices now.

Kandji has been amazing!

What do you like best about the product?
The ease of pushing updates and keeping every Mac in our organization on the same baseline image. We can better control security, how long it takes to setup a new Mac, and provide much better service to our Mac users. The customer support and our account team have been great and respond quickly. They go above and beyond for helping us fix issues.
What do you dislike about the product?
It could use more included apps out of the box. Have to custom script most apps, but it's not a difficult process. That's really about the only complaint we've had.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
It has lowered the amount of time it takes us to image and produce a new machine. We're now able to keep all users on the same Mac image and not have a wide variety of different OS levels. Much better security. No more users being admins.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Just do it. It's much more simple than JAMF, it's created by Mac Admins who understand the pain points, it's easy to setup and just works.

I've waited for this product for years!

What do you like best about the product?
* Clean friendly modern user interface
* Excellent MDM logic and pricing
* Integration with known identity providers like Okta
* Out-of-this-world support level
What do you dislike about the product?
My inability to assign a single device to multiple Blueprints (I'm sure Kandji will figure it out)
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
* MDM + assignment to users
* Deployment of profiles for encryption, endpoint security, and so much more
* Staying in compliance for fintech
* Saved SO MUCH Time!
Recommendations to others considering the product:
If you've been frustrated with other MDM platforms for Apple devices, you should give Kandji a try. They have an excellent sales/demo process and incredible pricing to go with it. Kandji is what MDMs were supposed to be, and now it's here.

Easy to manage and deploy new settings or apps to users.
What do you dislike about the product?
There's nothing that stands out as a dislike.

Makes Managing Macs simple

  • March 04, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Kandji has pre-built blueprints that are easy to modify to your exact needs. No need to spend hours going through all the options.
What do you dislike about the product?
I wish there was a mobile app for my admin panel to use while on the go.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
I have about 70 Mac computers that the only information I had was an excel file with the specs. I didn't know what OS they were on, the last time they were in use, who had what. Using Kandji solved all that instantly.
Recommendations to others considering the product:
Work with the Kandji team, they are very helpful, quick, and will point you in the right direction for more complicated items.

Great tool for the right price

  • February 25, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
Easy to use, always-on support, and openness from the Kandji team to take suggestions (and implement them!). Also, fair pricing.
What do you dislike about the product?
Sometimes the agent takes a while to ping the server in some machines. It could be improved.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
We needed a tool to monitor all of our Macs, in different countries, for a price a start-up can pay. Kandji was the only one checking all the boxes.

Zero to complete device management in no time

  • February 25, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
The platform provides an intuitive way to manage and onboard devices with pre-defined security templates and ease of use. We've gone from no MDM solution to managing all of our device fleet in no time. With its API integration, Kandji helps in maintaining our security compliance.
What do you dislike about the product?
There isn't anything specific to dislike about the platform. It would be nice to provide device authentication/login via Google Workspace as an identity provider would be helpful.
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
Device management and security/compliance enforcement with minimal to no IT staff. Kandji saves us a lot of time from an IT perspective and streamlined our device and user onboarding processes.

When it comes to an Apple MDM, Kandji is unmatched

  • February 23, 2022
  • Review provided by G2

What do you like best about the product?
With Kandji, we have end-to-end security for all of our employee's Apple devices, in one easy-to-use platform. Not to mention, the onboarding and provisioning experience for new devices is fantastic!
What do you dislike about the product?
I do not dislike anything about Kandji. One product request would be to have a lightweight client for non-Apple computers!
What problems is the product solving and how is that benefiting you?
The main problem we were set out to solve was ensuring all employee devices were in line with our security framework. With Kandji, we have the assurance that all employee devices are secure.
