AWS Imagine Grant Program

A public grant opportunity open to registered 501(c) nonprofit organizations in the United States who are using technology to solve the world's most pressing challenges.

Our goal is to empower nonprofit organizations to prioritize technology as a mission-critical component of their projects and to provide support for organizations pursuing technology-driven goals. As part of the program, we are seeking proposals for pilot projects, proofs of concept, strategic technology planning, or existing programs that utilize technology in a new or expanded way.

Organizations selected for the AWS Imagine Grant may receive the following resources:

  • Up to $100,000 USD of unrestricted financial support
  • Up to $100,000 USD in AWS Promotional Credit
  • Project kickoff workshop and implementation support from Amazon Web Services (AWS) technical specialist(s)
  • Up to five AWS Training Services Vouchers
  • An opportunity for AWS marketing support

*AWS reserves the right to determine actual awarded amounts at its sole discretion.

How to apply

The application cycle for the 2020 AWS Imagine Grant is now closed. Submissions were due by September 30, 2020. To receive information about the next available cycle in 2021, please sign up for email alerts.

Program features

Funding

Funding is distributed at the organizational level and structured as a one-time, unrestricted gift.

Training

Awards may include up to five AWS Training Services Vouchers (subject to the AWS Training terms and conditions).

AWS Promotional Credit

Awards may include AWS Promotional Credit that can be redeemed toward eligible AWS Services (subject to the AWS Promotional Credit terms and conditions).

AWS Kickoff Workshop

Organizations may have the opportunity to participate in a kickoff workshop with AWS technical specialists to help guide strategy and project implementation.

Storytelling

Organizations may have the opportunity to work with the AWS marketing team to create a project impact story that may be used to generate visibility for their organization. Recipient organizations must be willing and able to provide project details to AWS for the purpose of creating a case study, reference, podcast episode, or testimonial based on their program involvement.

Technical support

AWS has a multitude of self-service resources, success stories, and training resources. Additionally, attend our virtual office hours for interactive service demonstrations and Q&A with AWS solutions architects.

2019 AWS Imagine Grant Winners

Alex’s Lemonade Stand

Alex’s Lemonade Stand is using artificial intelligence and machine learning on AWS to expand the annotation of genomic data. They will use this grant money to build out their refine.bio product, which will give childhood cancer researchers access to over 900,000 genomic samples to help find a cure for childhood cancers.

Code of Support Foundation

Code of Support Foundation is helping veterans and their families find resources they’re eligible for quickly and more reliably through their newly expanded cloud-based database: PATRIOTlink. This database matches veterans to legal, mental health, and financial services.

Creative Commons Corporation

Creative Commons Corporation is leveraging the power of image recognition and machine learning to improve metadata in search algorithms to enhance search results as it pertains to openly licensed content and public domain works.

Kiva is launching a platform to help the world’s 1.7 billion unbanked population. The platform will help them track credit history and verify identities, empowering this group of people to take back financial control in their lives.

SkyTruth is using machine learning algorithms to analyze images that detect bilge dumping around the world. The analysis will be aggregated in a database that will then inform governments, activists, and researchers to ultimately help put a stop to the illegal practice of oil dumping at sea.

Breastcancer.org is building a digital solution to better inform patient decision-making based off traditionally hard to understand pathology reports. This solution will help demystify the report for patients and give them the essential healthcare resources they need.
