High availability

Protect against data center, availability zone, server, network and storage subsystem failures to keep your business running without downtime.

Businesses want to take advantage of the cloud right now.

To do so, they must look for solutions to help them optimize their business model and find the time and resources to modernize all mission-critical legacy applications and associated data.

High availability software solutions offer data protection for all the legacy file data that businesses want to move to Amazon Web Services (AWS), as well as reliable performance with minimal downtime and costs.

SoftNAS

Architecture diagram of a high-availability deployment using SoftNAS on AWS, illustrating access for clients and applications via ISCSI, CIFS, SMB, NFS, and AFP protocols, with Amazon Elastic Block Store (EBS), Amazon S3, and multiple availability zones for redundancy.

SoftNAS is a software-defined network attached storage (NAS) solution provider for the cloud. With SoftNAS Cloud Enterprise, businesses gain a full-featured NAS that supports all file data protocols and levels of cost-performance optimization on Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) and Amazon Elastic Block Store (Amazon EBS). Businesses can host workloads in AWS knowing their mission-critical application data has enterprise-grade protection.

SoftNAS Cloud Enterprise delivers 99.999% per-year availability SLA on AWS, allowing non-disruptive online storage administration. SoftNAS leverages SNAP HA®, a patented high-availability and cluster configuration for non-stop application operation with automatic failover and seamless transfer across controllers

Capabilities include:

  • Petabyte-scale cloud NAS filer with encryption (at rest and in transit) - with customer controlled encryption keys, compression, in-line deduplication, thin provisioning, cloning, and Portable Operating System Interface (POSIX)-compliant file system
  • Fast, easy setup and management using an intuitive web-based admin UI - no training required
  • Active Directory and Lightweight Directory Access Protocol (LDAP) integration, support for: Common Internet File System/Server Message Block (CIFS/SMB), Network File System (NFS), Apple Filing Protocol (AFP), and Internet Small Computer Systems Interface (iSCSI) storage protocols
  • Built-in High Availability license for use with two nodes, cross-zone replication, snapshot and rollback functionality, replication and Redundant Array of Independent Discs (RAID) for Amazon EBS, RAM caching; supports Amazon EBS (block storage) and Amazon S3 (object storage) or both

Media provider, iN DEMAND, expands video storage with SoftNAS Cloud

When iN DEMAND, a leading media provider, needed to rapidly expand its enterprise storage capabilities, they knew the cost and time of deploying even more on-premises storage was no longer the right solution. They needed to bring hundreds of terabytes of video content into and out of a cloud-based environment rapidly for transcoding and distribution to content providers. Their solution was to choose AWS and SoftNAS Cloud.

The SoftNAS solution provides reliability and unlimited throughput from AWS, which made it easy to get buy-in from iN DEMAND’s operations team. Business processes were shifted from on-premises NAS to SoftNAS Cloud on AWS. The company now stores over 200 TB of data on their SoftNAS instance running on Amazon EC2 and EBS, with significant cost savings and massive reductions in time to provision new storage.

Selecting SoftNAS Cloud has enabled us to quickly provision and manage storage, which has contributed to a hassle-free experience.
