You pay by the hour for this hardened Windows Server 2022 image, with no upfront commitment. Billing scales by the EC2 instance type you choose to run it on. Each dimension maps to a specific instance size and family — general purpose, compute, memory, storage, GPU, and high-performance options. Larger instances with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware carry higher hourly rates. Your software cost is charged alongside the separate AWS infrastructure cost for the instance. You can stop running an instance to stop accruing hourly charges, giving you flexible, usage-based pricing.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does one hourly unit map to for this hardened Windows Server 2022 image?
One unit is one running EC2 instance of the type you select, billed per hour. The instance family and size (for example general purpose, compute, memory, storage, or GPU) set the hourly rate. Each running instance meters separately. Running two instances bills two hourly rates at once.
Am I charged the software fee when I stop or pause an instance?
The hourly software charge meters running time only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing the software fee. Underlying AWS infrastructure costs, such as attached storage, may still apply while the instance is stopped. Restarting the instance resumes the hourly software charge automatically.
What drives my total cost if I resize to a larger instance type?
Your bill combines the software hourly rate with the separate AWS infrastructure cost for that instance. Moving to a family or size with more CPU, memory, or specialized hardware raises both. The change takes effect when you launch the new instance type; there is no automatic upgrade.

Centralized domain control has improved security layers and simplifies user and app management
Reviewed on Oct 22, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer
What is our primary use case?
My major use case for Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages includes domain control, DNS, DHCP, and normal domain server functions.
What is most valuable?
I think the best part about Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is its simplicity. It is easy to use and easy to configure.
Good features that I can highlight about Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages are the frequent updates we receive from Microsoft. This is the best feature we have because every now and then there are major attacks in the world, so the updates are very good and they secure the server perfectly.
Multi-layered security is important. If you use single-layer security, you are open to attacks. If you don't have multiple layers, not only software but also hardware, even for firewalls and similar components, you are not fully protected. With multiple layers, you are protected both internally and externally. Multi-layer security is essential to have.
What needs improvement?
I see that Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages should be more rigid in its core itself. The issue is not only with the server but also with the licensing, because you need a lot of licenses to perform normal processes. You must have licenses for everything to access the features of security and user experience. This should be changed.
I believe Microsoft is working on additional features and integrations in the future. I am hopeful that they will integrate AI into the operating system.
For how long have I used the solution?
I started using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages approximately in 2014. I have been using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages for more than five years overall, though I have only been using it at this company for approximately five years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
I agree that Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is a stable and reliable product 99% of the time. I do not see major glitches or latency problems.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is very scalable.
How are customer service and support?
The technical support from Microsoft is helpful. I can rate the support from Microsoft between eight and nine points.
How was the initial setup?
I find Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages quite easy to install.
What was our ROI?
There is value for money with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages. It gives us ROI on the control of users and to control the applications used. I would say the ROI is approximately 20%.
What's my experience with pricing, setup cost, and licensing?
The price for Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is moderate.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
Based on my previous experience, since I am using only Windows servers here, I would say Linux is protected in its core and is better than Microsoft from this perspective. However, for the whole system, Microsoft is an easy-to-use software.
What other advice do I have?
We are end-users of Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages. We have Azure, but we have not worked with Azure Arc.
I am working with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint. The effectiveness depends on the license itself because Microsoft Defender for Endpoint is standard and requires an enterprise device or enterprise server in the backend. By having the complete system, it works better compared to other antivirus software. However, if you compare it as an endpoint only, antivirus software like CrowdStrike, Trend Micro, or Kaspersky are better.
I have Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages in both cloud and on-premises environments, so I have a hybrid setup. I have multiple cloud providers, but for Windows, it is Azure. I would give Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages a final rating of nine.

Hybrid servers have streamlined identity management and simplified secure file access
Reviewed on Oct 15, 2026
Review from a verified AWS customer
What is our primary use case?
I normally use Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as a file server or for Windows Active Directory servers, primarily for running the environment and client-server model.
I have Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages deployed in both hybrid environments, on-cloud, and on-premises.
What is most valuable?
Active Directory is the most prominent feature, and it has great capabilities. I utilize IIS, Active Directory Domain Services, file services, and networking extensively.
I am using Azure Arc, which helps me manage servers across the cloud platform and on-premises, providing the best features to work with this platform.
From a security perspective, there are many solutions available in the market. I use a security solution that is not complete with the Microsoft platform.
I have been working with Microsoft Defender for Endpoint, and that is a very good product. It is important to us because we deploy it on the cloud, on the server side, and on the client side, so we use this product across multiple platforms.
I have not used hardware root-of-trust and firmware protection, so I cannot speak to how it impacts data integrity.
What needs improvement?
Currently, I am not using the server side as much because my primary role has changed to the cloud side. Although I have the knowledge and experience, I use it sometimes, but I am mostly working in the cloud environment.
I always see improvement as an opportunity to improve the products or services, and there is always room for that.
Regarding improvements, I really liked the features for converting Core to Graphics and Graphics to Core that have been removed from future products since 2019.
For how long have I used the solution?
I have been using Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages since Windows NT, and considering my experience, I have been using it for 10 to 14 years.
What do I think about the stability of the solution?
From a stability perspective, I would rate Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as an eight.
Downtime has mostly reduced, but when we update patches or the operating system, it requires a reboot. For any configuration, we cannot restore services without a reboot.
What do I think about the scalability of the solution?
Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages is scalable, and I rate it a good number.
How are customer service and support?
Microsoft support is not good. Sometimes we receive a solution before we implement it. Sometimes we search for the Microsoft solution, and in the meanwhile, we find a solution and implement it, so Microsoft help is quite lengthy and delayed. This is the main concern we are facing right now. I rated my experience with Microsoft support as a three, where ten is the best.
Which solution did I use previously and why did I switch?
Normally, the company started using servers since its journey, and before Windows NT server was available in the market, we also used Novell NetWare, which was the biggest benefit that solution brought to us.
How was the initial setup?
Installation is simple, whether on Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages side or Linux side, and I do not see much difference in that. Installation is not a big deal.
What was our ROI?
ROI is very important for every organization and every customer. They are concerned about ROI because if they get more ROI, they are very happy, but if they are not getting that much ROI, they are not happy.
Savings are also important, and operations are important, not just the cost of the product we are purchasing, but also the services we use and how much we can save from fulfilling the requirements to run the product. If we add more products for more features, ROI will definitely become lower.
When we talk about ROI on savings, I can say that I can save 30 to 40 percent.
Which other solutions did I evaluate?
I believe Linux is always the leader. Whatever products improve or run in the market, Linux is the leader, and I think Microsoft has some competition. Linux has more features than Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages or client operating systems and provides more control and flexibility. I recommend that Linux is the best.
From a security perspective, Linux has more security features and customization, although it is not as user-friendly as Windows.
What other advice do I have?
I rate my overall experience with Windows Server 2022 (Windows Server 2022) | Support by SupportedImages as an eight.
