What is AWS TechAction?

AWS TechAction is a program designed to help nonprofits build and scale projects related to donor and member engagement on Amazon Web Services (AWS). This program provides AWS Promotional Credit and other enablement resources to help organizations enhance their fundraising and outreach initiatives.

What are the criteria to receive an AWS Promotional Credit from TechAction?

The following criteria must be met to receive a credit from TechAction:

  • The organization must be a registered nonprofit or credit union in the United States with a valid employer identification number (EIN).
  • The organization must have an active AWS account. If you do not have an account, you can create one here.
  • The organization must complete the entire credit application providing a project description that outlines an intended use of the Promotional Credit for donor engagement or fundraising.


What is the difference between the AWS Nonprofit Credit Program (TechSoup) and AWS TechAction?

The AWS Nonprofit Credit program works in partnership with TechSoup to provide nonprofits $1,000 USD in AWS Promotional Credit once per year. This program helps qualified organizations get started using AWS, and it offers ongoing access to AWS Promotional Credit for any type of AWS usage with no AWS application required.

AWS TechAction provides up to $5,000 in Promotional Credit and enablement resources to nonprofits and credit unions using AWS for donor and member engagement. Organizations of all sizes and mission areas are encouraged to submit a short application and project description, and Promotional Credit is awarded to qualified organizations to help them build and scale their donor, member, and fundraising solutions.

Can organizations access a credit from TechSoup and TechAction?

Yes. A nonprofit that has received an AWS Promotional Credit through the AWS Nonprofit Credit Program (TechSoup) can also apply for a credit from TechAction. There’s no guarantee any organization will be granted a credit from TechAction, but receiving prior credits does not precluded organizations from TechAction.

Can you extend AWS Promotional Credit?

No. According to the AWS Promotional Credit Terms and Conditions webpage, “Promotional Credit is valid for a limited time only and expires on the date indicated when you receive the applicable Promotional Credit code (or such other date designated by your AWS contracting entity). Failure to use Promotional Credit before such expiration date will result in the forfeiture of Promotional Credit. We reserve the right to cancel Promotional Credit at any time. No refunds will be granted for any expired or cancelled Promotional Credit.”

Do I need to be an AWS customer to join TechAction?

Yes. You must have an active AWS account with a valid payment method on file to join TechAction. You can learn more about creating an AWS account here.

How do I apply for a credit from TechAction?

To apply for a credit from TechAction, organizations must submit a short application form that includes a project description. For more details, please click here.

How much credit can I receive from TechAction?

You can apply for credit multiple times as long as each application describes a unique project related donor or member engagement.

How long does it take to receive a credit from TechAction?

Applications are reviewed and credits are disbursed within 30 business days of submission. Approved organizations will receive a credit directly into the AWS Account ID provided within their application.

Are all applicants awarded AWS Promotional Credit from TechAction?

No, only qualified organizations that are using AWS for donor engagement and fundraising will be awarded a Promotional Credit. For qualification criteria, please review the criteria question above.

How much AWS Promotional Credit can organizations expect to receive from TechAction?

Organizations are eligible for up to $5,000 USD in Promotional Credit. Credit values are dependent on the organization’s needs, previous allocations of Promotional Credit, and intended usage of AWS.

Does AWS Promotional Credit expire?

Yes. TechAction Promotional Credit will expire on the date indicated when you receive the applicable Promotional Credit code (or such other date designated by your AWS contracting entity). Failure to use AWS Promotional Credit before the expiration date will result in the forfeiture of AWS Promotional Credit. We reserve the right to cancel AWS Promotional Credit at any time. No refunds will be granted for any expired or cancelled AWS Promotional Credit.

Will we be notified if our organization does not qualify for Promotional Credit from TechAction?

We process applications within approximately 10-12 business days. We make reasonable attempts to follow up with each applicant. However, in cases where the AWS account ID is invalid, or the email address provided is a personal address instead of a organizational email address, we reserve the right to remove your application from the queue and you may not receive a follow up.

As a member of TechAction, can I use the AWS logo on my website?

You can display the Powered By Amazon Web Services logo, as seen here, to let your customers know your application is built on the same reliable, scalable infrastructure used to power Amazon.com’s global web properties. Visit the AWS co-marketing tools page for more details. Use of this logo and any AWS marks are subject to AWS trademark guidelines.

Can I mention AWS as the technology sponsor for my organization?

No. TechAction is not a sponsorship program.
