What resource does one hourly rate cover for this caching server image?
Each hourly rate covers one running EC2 instance of the type you pick. The rate reflects that instance's size and family. You run the hardened caching server software on that instance. Compute, memory, storage, and accelerated families all carry different hourly rates matched to their capacity.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software fee meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue software charges. Stopped instances may still incur AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate AWS infrastructure charges, not the software licence fee.
How does my bill combine the software charge with the AWS instance charge?
Two charges apply per running hour and add together on one invoice. The software fee is set by this listing for your chosen instance type. The AWS infrastructure fee is set by AWS for that same instance. Larger instances raise both charges.
