You pay by the hour for the Caching Server, billed only while an instance runs. Pricing is set per Amazon EC2 instance type, so your rate depends on the instance you choose. Options span many families, including general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage-optimized, and accelerated computing types. Within each family, sizes scale from micro and large up to metal and multi-xlarge configurations. Larger sizes carry a higher hourly rate because they provide more CPU, memory, or storage. There is no upfront commitment. You select the instance that fits your caching workload and adjust as your needs change.

What do I actually get for the hourly rate on a given instance type?
You get the Caching Server software running on the Amazon EC2 instance type you select. Each instance type maps to a fixed set of CPU, memory, and storage resources. The hourly rate reflects that specific size and family. AWS infrastructure charges for the instance are separate from this software rate.
Am I charged when my caching instance is stopped or paused?
The hourly software rate meters running time only. A fully stopped instance does not accrue the software charge. Note that stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but those are separate from the Caching Server software rate.
How do I move to a different instance type if my caching workload grows?
Because pricing is set per instance type with no upfront commitment, you can stop your current instance and launch the Caching Server on a different type. Your hourly rate then changes to match the new instance size. You pay only for the hours each instance runs.
