You pay by the hour for the Rocky Linux 9 image plus vendor support, billed per running instance. Pricing scales with the EC2 instance type you launch. Each dimension maps to a specific instance type, so the hourly rate follows the size and family you choose. Smaller shared instances like t3.nano cost less per hour, while large memory, compute, storage, and GPU instances such as x2idn.metal or p5.48xlarge carry higher rates. You select the instance that fits your workload, and charges accrue only while instances run. No upfront commitment applies.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What does the hourly rate for a chosen instance type actually cover?
The rate covers the Rocky Linux 9 image plus vendor support for that running instance. It is separate from the underlying AWS EC2 compute charge. Each dimension maps to one EC2 instance type, so the software rate follows the family and size you launch.
Am I charged when an instance is stopped or paused?
The software charge meters running time per instance. Fully stopped instances do not accrue the hourly software fee. You are billed only while an instance runs. Note that AWS may still charge for attached storage on stopped instances, separate from this software rate.
What is included with the image beyond the operating system itself?
Each image ships with the latest updates applied and includes vendor support. You can open a support ticket by providing your AWS subscription ID and the product name. Support is bundled into the hourly rate for every instance type you launch.
