The hourly software rate meters running time only. A stopped or powered-off instance does not accrue the software charge. You may still pay AWS for attached storage while the instance is stopped, but the AlmaLinux 9 software fee applies only to hours the instance actually runs.
What does one hour of billing actually cover for a given instance type?
One hour maps to one running ARM-based EC2 instance of the type you pick, such as t4g.nano or c8g.metal-48xl. The rate reflects that instance's size and family. Running two instances of the same type bills two hourly rates. Partial hours follow AWS metering rules.
How is the software fee affected if I move my workload to a larger instance type?
