If you are an AWS Free Tier customer with a free plan, you are eligible to subscribe to this offer. You can use free credits to cover the cost of eligible AWS infrastructure. See AWS Free Tier for more details. If you created an AWS account before July 15th, 2025, and qualify for the Legacy AWS Free Tier, Amazon EC2 charges for Micro instances are free for up to 750 hours per month. See Legacy AWS Free Tier for more details.
You pay by the hour for this pre-configured image, which bundles the software license with a Windows server. Pricing has one dimension: the AWS EC2 instance type you choose. Each listed instance charges its own hourly rate. Rates scale with the compute resources behind each type. Smaller instances like nano, micro, and large sizes cost less per hour. Larger sizes such as 24xlarge, 48xlarge, and bare-metal options cost more. Instance families (general purpose, compute, memory, storage, and accelerated) target different workloads. You are billed only for the hours each instance runs, and you can switch types anytime.
Top-of-mind questions for buyers
What exactly am I paying for with the hourly rate on each instance type?
The hourly rate bundles the software license and Windows server with the compute resources of the EC2 instance you pick. One "unit" is one running instance for one hour. You pay for each instance-hour it runs, no matter how you use the database inside it.
Am I charged the software fee when my instance is stopped or paused?
The software license meters running hours only. A fully stopped instance stops accruing this hourly charge. You may still pay separate AWS storage fees for the attached disk while stopped, but those come from AWS, not from this listing's software rate.
What happens to my cost if I switch to a larger instance type?
You can switch instance types anytime. Your rate changes to that type's hourly price starting when the new instance runs. Larger sizes carry more compute and a higher hourly rate. You are not locked in, so you can move up or down as workloads change.

An AMI is a virtual image that provides the information required to launch an instance. Amazon EC2 (Elastic Compute Cloud) instances are virtual servers on which you can run your applications and workloads, offering varying combinations of CPU, memory, storage, and networking resources. You can launch as many instances from as many different AMIs as you need.
