The many options span general-purpose, compute-optimized, memory-optimized, storage, accelerated-computing, and high-performance instance families across several generations and sizes. Your cost scales with the instance you select. Smaller instances (like nano, micro, or large sizes) carry lower hourly rates. Larger instances (like 24xlarge, 48xlarge, or metal) carry higher rates. You run one rate per running instance and stop charges by stopping the instance.

You pay a software charge for the IIS 10 on Windows 2019 image, which includes the operating system, web server, and the Traffic Guard configuration with firewall and network protocols. This runs on top of the separate AWS EC2 infrastructure cost, which AWS bills to your account.
The software charge meters running time. When you stop the instance, the hourly software charge stops accruing. Stopped instances may still incur underlying AWS storage fees for attached volumes, but the software licence only bills for time the instance is actively running.
Each running instance bills at the hourly rate for its own instance type. If you run several instances, charges add up independently across all of them. There is no single flat rate covering multiple instances; your total reflects the sum of each running instance's rate.

1. Getting Started with Windows on AWS

2. Logging in as Administrator
To log in to your AWS Windows instance as an Administrator, follow these steps:
- Go to the AWS Support Knowledge Center to retrieve the Administrator password.
- Use the private key (.pem) file you generated when you created your EC2 instance to decrypt the Administrator password.
- After obtaining the password, you can use it to log in to your Windows instance through Remote Desktop (RDP).
3. Launch IIS Server
- To open IIS Server, go to the Start Menu and search for IIS, then select Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager. IIS will be launched.
- Start using IIS for your needs.
