What does the AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS offer?
The AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS offer will provide free use of single-AZ t1.micro DB instances running MySQL, Oracle (“Bring-Your-Own-License (BYOL)” licensing model) and SQL Server Express Edition. The free usage tier is capped at 750 instance hours per month. Customers will also get 20 GB of database storage, 10 million I/Os and 20 GB of backup storage for free per month. This benefit is only available to existing AWS customers who have signed-up for Free Tier after October 20, 2010 and new AWS customers, and is available for 12 months following your AWS sign-up date.

Can an AWS customer run more than one DB instance under the AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS?
An AWS customer can run more than one Single-AZ t1.micro DB instance simultaneously and be eligible for usage counted under the AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS. However any use exceeding 750 instance hours, across all Amazon RDS Single-AZ t1.micro DB instances, across all eligible database engines and regions, will be billed at standard Amazon RDS prices. For example, if two t1.micro Single-AZ DB instances with MySQL are run for 400 hours each in a single month, the customer will accumulate 800 instance hours of usage, of which 750 hours will be free, and the remaining 50 hours will be billed at the standard Amazon RDS price.

Does an AWS customer have access to 750 instance hours each of the MySQL, Oracle and SQL Server t1.micro DB instances under the AWS Free Usage Tier?
No, a customer with access to the AWS Free Usage Tier can use up to 750 instance hours of t1.micro instances running either MySQL, Oracle or SQL Server Express Edition. Any use exceeding 750 instance hours, across all Amazon RDS Single-AZ t1.micro DB instances, across all eligible database engines and regions, will be billed at standard Amazon RDS prices.

Will the AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS be available in all AWS regions?
The AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS will be available in all AWS regions, except for GovCloud.

How is an AWS customer billed when instance hour usage exceeds benefit available under the AWS Free Usage Tier for Amazon RDS?
The customer is billed at the standard Amazon RDS price for usage exceeding 750 instance hours. Please see the Amazon RDS pricing page for details.

If an AWS customer is using the RDS 60-day Free Trial, will they still have access to the RDS Free Tier?
We have stopped accepting new registrations to the free trial program starting October 1st.
Customers who are currently on the RDS Free Trial program, will continue to avail the benefits of the program for 60 days from the date they first used Amazon RDS. After completing the 60-day free trial, you simply pay standard, pay-as-you-go service rates (see Amazon RDS pricing page for full pricing details). Customers can also switch to the free tier before completing the 60-day free trial by scaling their DB instance down to a db.t1.micro.
Customers who have used the RDS Free Trial in the past and are eligible for the AWS free usage tier can avail the free RDS usage by scaling their DB instance down to a db.t1.micro. As noted above, AWS free usage tier is only available to existing AWS customers who have signed-up for Free Tier after October 20, 2010 and new AWS customers, and is available for 12 months following your AWS sign-up date.
