Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance: Germany

A national coalition of employers, educational institutions, and government agencies that addresses the skills gap and prepares learners for in-demand tech jobs.

Building tech skills together

The scarcity of cloud talent is a major concern for many businesses and often reported as a key barrier to cloud adoption. The Amazon Web Services (AWS) Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance forges new paths for individuals to develop cloud expertise and enter the technology workforce.

The Tech Alliance in Germany brings together a coalition of AWS customers and partners, government bodies, workforce development organizations, and educational institutions to prepare learners for entry-level cloud careers. Working backwards from employer demand for specific cloud skills and roles, the Tech Alliance works with educational institutions and educators to provide a free, ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum—through the AWS Academy—that prepares students to pursue in-demand cloud jobs in areas such as cloud support, software development, and data analysis. AWS is investing in the future of the German technology community and workforce by helping tech students expand their cloud skill sets.

Germany is known for its engineering innovation and has a high demand for early-career talent with the skills to develop the digital products and services of the future. AWS launched the German Tech Alliance in partnership with UnternehmerTUM, which is part of the Technical University of Munich, Germany’s No. 1 technical university. UnternehmerTUM is also the largest European entrepreneurship center with more than 12,500 annual students and more than $2B USD raised by its ventures in 2022. As part of the Tech Alliance, UnternehmerTUM and other alliance partners offer pathways to jobs in digital product development and engineering. In addition, the Tech Alliance brings together leading industry partners including Siemens, Vitesco Technologies, Deloitte, XL2 (a venture of Audi and Capgemini); tech industry associations like KI Park; and other German educational institutions such as FOM University and IU International University of Applied Sciences (IU). Select alliance events will take place in cooperation with bitkom e.V., Germany’s digital association representing more than 2,200 companies of the digital economy, and the GovTec Campus by the German Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community.

The Germany Tech Alliance will officially launch on November 29, 2023, with the long-term potential to connect 30,000 students with in-demand tech jobs. The alliance also has more than 130 universities and educational institutions that are currently enrolled in AWS Academy, through which almost 4,000 students were trained on cloud computing.
