AWS for data spaces

Share data across organizations, through a network of trust to derive insights and accelerate outcomes

Amazon Web Services (AWS) provides the building blocks for customers and partners to create, manage, and use data spaces. AWS supports organizations not only when connecting to and retrieving data from data spaces, but also integrating new data sources with analytics, machine learning (ML), and business intelligence services to put data into action – all while supporting data security.

Data spaces help our customers to innovate faster by breaking down data silos across organizations and support a secure data exchange while retaining control over the entire data lifecycle.

AWS customers will benefit from the guidance and assistance of AWS Partners and AWS Professional Services experts while setting up their data space environments. This includes setting up the required open source connector technology, identity, access and usage policies, control plane deployment, data integration extensions, and data catalog discoverability.

AWS technology approach

AWS aims for simple-to-use integrations between the connecting technology required to participate in a data space and AWS services. We are enabling customers to share data in a standardized manner and providing them with the services and tools to make the most of their own data, as well as third-party data. Data spaces address the discovery and transfer of data assets based on agreements between the participants of a data exchange; the underlying AWS infrastructure enables participants to run the required data space connector in a secure, scalable, and reliable way, but also provides services to support consuming and analyzing the data after transfer.

The extensible nature of many data space connectors makes it simple for different parties to develop extensions and integrations that can use the capabilities AWS offers to provide a secure, scalable, and cost-effective infrastructure to make the most of their data assets.

For example, AWS is an official contributor to the Eclipse Dataspace Components (EDC) GitHub repository. AWS’s involvement in the EDC development comes in response to requests from AWS customers who are already building or participating in data spaces that will use EDC. AWS can help extend EDC functionality to fulfill each data space’s goal where appropriate. In addition, AWS is working on creating a module for data spaces as part of the Smart Territory Framework. This module will integrate FIWARE data space building blocks and will align with technical convergence recommendations published by the Data Spaces Business Alliance. In doing so, AWS supports customers interested in building data spaces based on open standards and specifications agreed between Gaia-X, International Data Spaces Association, FIWARE Foundation and BDVA.

AWS Partners

AWS Partners have developed expertise for data spaces. For example, partners such as Accenture, Capgemini, Deloitte, NTT, PwC, Sopra Steria, Think-IT and T-Systems.

AWS Professional Services

The AWS Professional Services organization is a global team of experts that can help customers realize desired business outcomes when developing data spaces. AWS Professional Services works together with your team and your chosen member of the AWS Partner Network (APN) to execute your data space initiatives.
