Updated Framework Modules for V3

by Jeremy Lindblom | on | in PHP | Permalink | Comments |  Share

Last month, we announced that Version 3 of the AWS SDK for PHP was generally available. We’ve now updated all of our framework-specific modules with releases that support Version 3 (V3) of the SDK. Take a look!

We’ve also updated our AWS Resource APIs for PHP library which we previewed in December. Now that V3 of the SDK is stable, we will be working on adding features and documentation to this library over the coming weeks.

As always, we appreciate your feedback on any of our open source packages. Check out these updates and let us know what you think. :-)

P.S. We’d like to give a special thanks to Graham Campbell and Michaël Gallego for their contributions to the Laravel and ZF2 packages, respectively.

AWS at Laracon 2014

by Jeremy Lindblom | on | in PHP | Permalink | Comments |  Share

I recently had the pleasure to attend and speak at Laracon, which is a conference for users of the Laravel PHP framework.

This is the second year that they have done Laracon. Last year, Laracon (US) was in Washington D.C., but this year they did it in New York City. The thing that impressed me most about this conference was how excited everyone was to be there. The Laravel community is very energetic, and they are growing. I definitely felt that energy, and I believe it helped make the event a good experience for all of the attendees.

I was honored to be able to speak to the attendees about Amazon Web Services. My talk was titled AWS for Artisans, and I focused on "The Cloud", AWS in general, and the AWS SDK for PHP. To tie everything together, I walked through the creation of a simple, but scalable, Laravel application, where pictures of funny faces are uploaded and displayed. I showed how the SDK was used and how AWS Elastic Beanstalk and other AWS services fit into the architecture.

Here are some of my favorite moments/comments from the presentation:

And here are the resources from the presentation:

There were already many existing AWS customers at Laracon, and it was nice to be able to talk to them, answer their questions, and hear their feedback and ideas. I also enjoyed talking to the developers that had yet to try AWS. Use the AWS credits I gave you to do something awesome! :-) Thank you to everyone that I had conversations with.

AWS at PHP Conferences in Spring 2014

by Jeremy Lindblom | on | in PHP | Permalink | Comments |  Share

This spring, I’ll be traveling to Dallas and New York City to represent the AWS SDK for PHP team and be with fellow PHP developers. I hope to see you too!

In late April, I’ll be going to Dallas for Lone Star PHP! I have two talks that I’ll be sharing there: Recursion: Making Big Problems Smaller and Surviving and Thriving in Technical Interviews. I will not be speaking specifically about AWS or the AWS SDK for PHP at Lone Star, but if you want to chat with me about AWS, then definitely come find me. Looking at the other speakers that are going to be there, I can tell this will be a really great conference.

I have another great opportunity in May to speak at Laracon in New York City, a conference for developers (i.e., "artisans") using the Laravel Framework. My talk is titled AWS for Artisans, and I’ll be talking about the services that AWS provides and the ways Laravel artisans can use AWS. I’ll also showcase some of the integrations that exist between the Laravel Framework and the AWS SDK for PHP, including the AWS Service Provider for Laravel 4 and the Laravel Queue component’s Amazon SQS driver.

I look forward to meeting new people and seeing old friends at both of these conferences. Make sure to come introduce yourself if you see me there. If you haven’t bought tickets for either of these events yet, there is still time. Do it!

AWS Service Provider for Laravel 1.1.0

by Jeremy Lindblom | on | in PHP | Permalink | Comments |  Share

We would like to announce the availability of version 1.1.0 of the AWS Service Provider for Laravel. This release updates the config handling logic of the service provider and provides a package-level configuration that can be published to your Laravel application via Artisan for easy customization.

Are there any other features you would like to see in the service provider? Please let us know on our GitHub issue tracker. Better yet, please consider submitting a pull request!

AWS Service Provider for Laravel 1.0.4

by Jeremy Lindblom | on | in PHP | Permalink | Comments |  Share

We would like to announce the availability of version 1.0.4 of the AWS Service Provider for Laravel. This version includes the AwsLaravelAwsFacade class which allows you to register an AWS facade in your Laravel 4 project, so you can retrieve clients in an easy and idiomatic way (e.g., $s3 = AWS::get('s3');).

We would also like to remind you about the other framework-specific packages that we currently support: the AWS SDK ZF2 Module and the AWS Service Provider for Silex. In the future, we will also post announcements on the blog when we update these packages.
