Five reasons to enable Amazon WorkDocs within your Amazon WorkSpaces environment

April 25, 2024: New customer sign-ups and account upgrades are no longer available for Amazon WorkDocs. For migration options, see How to Migrate Content from Amazon WorkDocs on the AWS Business Productivity blog.

Amazon WorkDocs is a fully managed, secure, content creation, storage, and collaboration service. WorkDocs makes it easy to collaborate with others, and lets you easily share content, provide rich feedback, and collaboratively edit documents. WorkDocs lets you integrate with your existing systems, and offers a rich API so that you can develop your own content-rich applications. Additionally, WorkDocs can be used directly inside your Amazon WorkSpaces environment.

Here are five reasons why you should enable WorkDocs with your Amazon WorkSpaces environment.

Reason #1: WorkDocs is included at no cost for Amazon WorkSpaces users

WorkDocs is included at no cost for all Amazon WorkSpaces customers for up to 50 GB of storage per user. Need more storage? You can upgrade your users’ storage to 1 TB for $2 per month.

Reason #2: Retire on-premises file share infrastructure

WorkDocs provides a cloud file storage and file sharing solution that allows your users and teams to access their content directly from their desktops. They can use native file systems in Amazon WorkSpaces, as well as through the WorkDocs web client and mobile application. This reduces the capex and opex required for maintaining on-premises file servers.

Reason #3: Enhanced security with no need to store content on local machines

With WorkDocs, Amazon WorkSpaces administrators can easily create an IP allow list directly from the WorkDocs admin console. This allows admins to limit access to their WorkDocs sites from their Amazon WorkSpaces environments only. Amazon WorkSpaces and WorkDocs also connect to the same Active Directory to streamline authentication and enhance security.

 Reason #4: Content collaboration

WorkDocs allows teams to collaboratively edit documents in real time within their Amazon WorkSpaces environment through Hancom Thinkfree Office Online or Microsoft Office Online. In addition to collaborative editing, users can add comments to files and request feedback. They can tag other users with @username to notify them that they’ve been mentioned in a comment.

Reason #5: Easily search all file content from within Amazon WorkSpaces

Through both WorkDocs Drive and the WorkDocs web client from within Amazon WorkSpaces, users can quickly search and find all their content stored in WorkDocs. Searching from the WorkDocs web client allows users to filter searches by location, date stored, file type, owner name, and more.
