AWS Week in Review – April 30, 2012

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, April 30	Nature Magazine published a detailed article on the 1000 Genomes Project. Per the supplemental note, this data (all 260 TB) is available in Amazon S3.
Tuesday, May 1	The article on Data Sharing Options for Scientific Workflows on Amazon EC2 was published.
Wednesday, May 2	We added Multi-AZ Support to Amazon RDS for Oracle Database. Greg Wilson published a real-world case study to chronicle his experience moving from on-premise to the AWS cloud.
Thursday, May 3	We updated our Microsoft SQL Server offerings, with additional instance types, support for SQL Server Web Edition, and support for SQL Server 2012.
Friday, May 4	In conjunction with our friends at Adobe, we conducted a webinar to show you how to do live streaming with Amazon CloudFront and Adobe Flash Media Server 4.5. The entire session was recorded and you can watch it now. Andrew Chilton released ConnectStream, some middleware to simplify uploading a collection of files to Amazon S3 through a web browser. The package is part of the Awssum client library for Node.JS. Michel Boudreu released Alternator, a mock implementation of the DynamoDB API (see our full directory for more of these, along with some libraries and mappers).
