Mobile Analytics is Moving to Amazon Pinpoint

September 14, 2021: Amazon Elasticsearch Service has been renamed to Amazon OpenSearch Service. See details.

Today we’re announcing a timeline for the unification of Mobile Analytics with Amazon Pinpoint. Amazon Pinpoint is a service that includes Mobile Analytics features—and builds upon them by providing real-time app analytics, user segmentation, real-time data export, and user engagement tools. To learn more, see the Amazon Pinpoint page.

After April 30, 2018, Mobile Analytics users will be able to access all their data on Amazon Pinpoint, without needing to make any changes to existing app integrations. Analytics data and reporting will be available in the Amazon Pinpoint console. Amazon Pinpoint lets you measure everything that Mobile Analytics does, such as app usage, revenue, and custom events. Additionally, it lets you segment users based on this data, and export the data in real time. These Amazon Pinpoint features are available without requiring you to make any changes to your Mobile Analytics implementation, write additional code, or deploy new versions of your apps.

Amazon Pinpoint further builds upon analytics capabilities by enabling you to run targeted messaging campaigns through push notifications, email, and SMS to increase user engagement and retention. You can also set up direct messaging workflows for tasks such as order confirmations, password reset notifications, and so on.

Data export from Amazon Pinpoint is provided via real-time event streams, through Amazon Kinesis. Users who use the existing batched auto-export feature on Mobile Analytics will need to update their settings on Amazon Pinpoint to continue exporting events data. Event streams also allow you to transform, encrypt, and deliver analytics data in real time to destinations such as Amazon S3, Amazon Redshift, or Amazon OpenSearch Service (successor to Amazon Elasticsearch Service).

An overview of Mobile Analytics unification with Amazon Pinpoint is provided in the following table. Click the “Learn more” links in the table for details provided in Mobile Analytics documentation.
