Our second annual AWS Summit in Bahrain took place on Sunday September 30th in Manama, Bahrain. More than 2,000 attendees including the Crown Prince and dignitaries within the Bahraini government joined us to get inspired and gain the technical knowledge needed to get more from the cloud. The event included 15 sessions across three tracks – management, technical, and spotlight. The Summit also featured those in the Middle East who have made impressive use of the cloud to foster a spirit of innovation in the region.

In September, we honored National Campus Safety Awareness Month and payed extra mind to the importance of keeping students and teachers safe. But, the focus on this important topic is critical year-round.

CrisisGo, an AWS Technology Partner, is dedicated to creating safe classrooms and empowering people to take an active role in keeping themselves and others safe. Its mobile platform is designed to enhance school safety through alerting, communication, and incident-management features, equipping anyone with access to a computer or phone with emergency tools and resources. The team has been particularly focused on protecting both mental and physical health at schools and universities.

We are excited to introduce the AWS Public Sector Partner Transformation Program: 110 Days to Transformation. This program includes a comprehensive assessment, training, and enablement focused on helping partners build a successful and profitable AWS Cloud business.

The AWS Competency Program highlights top AWS Partner Network (APN) partners who have demonstrated technical proficiency and customer success in specialized solution or industry areas. Within the public sector, we have Education Competency Partners and Government Competency Partners. Today, we are adding a third competency: the Nonprofit Competency.

Shared Services Canada (SSC) is the central IT service provider of the federal government of Canada. It delivers infrastructure services related to email, data centers, telecommunications, and workplace technology devices for 43 federal agencies. Currently, they operate approximately 700 data centers running roughly 14,000 applications. To meet the future needs of the government, SSC plans to drive efficiencies and augment their computing capacity through data center modernization and consolidation, and the adoption of cloud computing between 2017 and 2024.

National defense organizations have some of the most demanding software requirements in the world. Stringent security standards and complex environments make it challenging for developers to work efficiently. Because systems are deployed across large, proprietary government data centers, development teams find it challenging to create production-like environments for coding and testing. This, in turn, reduces the number of testing cycles that can be performed in a given amount of time.
