How Advizzo Empowers Utility Consumer Savings on AWS
This blog post is authored by AWS partner Advizzo.
Since 2015, Advizzo’s behavioral science software and solutions have been empowering electricity, gas, and water customers around the globe to reduce their water and energy consumption and contribute to preserving the world’s natural resources. Today, over 1 million households use Advizzo’s solutions, powered by Amazon Web Services (AWS).
Advizzo believes that our speed of innovation is fundamental to our growth strategy. Since our founding, we’ve relied on a host of AWS services to support our technology stack, including Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2), Amazon Relational Database Service (Amazon RDS), Amazon Redshift, and today Advizzo is an AWS Partner.
We promise our utility customers a 99% service-level availability, so we rely on AWS Auto Scaling and on the AWS inherent network resilience. Since we deliver services to water, gas, and electric utility end consumers from around the world, the AWS approach to security in the shared responsibility model provides us with the confidence that no matter where we build our solutions on AWS, the same global standards and support apply.
Building on AWS has delivered value for Advizzo in several other areas:
- Helped Advizzo meet customer demand for flexible access to our data insights.
- Lowered Advizzo’s costs and increased R&D efficiency by allowing full team to focus on leveraging strengths of a single cloud platform.
- Increased agility through carefully controlled release upgrades.
- Expanded Advizzo market reach enabling us to attract new customers in new geographies, different segments, and in new verticals.
Utility Digital Customer Engagement
Our investment in AWS technology solutions enables us to provide our utility partners with additional features and flexibility. For example, to support digital customer engagement, we have fully integrated the Amazon Simple Notification Service (Amazon SNS) into our Advizzo communication engine. This allows us to deliver millions of email and mobile push messages on behalf of our utility partners every month. Our utility customers benefit from the native SNS integration with Amazon Connect, an omnichannel digital platform solution now used by a growing number of utilities.
Sustainable Customer Behaviors Down Under
Amazon’s pledge to be net zero carbon by 2040 aligns with Advizzo’s core values, and it supports the goals and passions of our energy and water utility customers. One such Advizzo water utility customer is Yarra Valley Water, the largest of three Victorian Government owned retail water corporations that provides drinking water and sewerage services to over two million people and over 58,000 businesses in the northern and eastern suburbs of Melbourne Australia.
Melbournians today use 22% less water than they were 10 years ago, but Melbourne’s population is set to double, and scientists are also predicting more extreme droughts in the future. Yarra Valley Water is keen to find new ways to improve its water network, reduce household water consumption, and improve water conservation.
In fall 2020, Yarra Valley Water launched an Advizzo-based customer engagement initiative initially for Yarra Valley Water customers that have digital water meters. Customers receive a personalized water use report and access to a bespoke web portal with messages designed to encourage behavioral changes that will ultimately reduce water consumption and bills.
Advizzo’s proven behavioral science-based customer engagement programs typically deliver an additional 1–3% in water savings.
“Small changes today will help secure water supplies for current and future generations of Victorians while delivering additional water savings,” says Raghu Bharadwaj, digital metering program director, Yarra Valley Water. And a Yarra Valley end customer shared their program feedback: “Thank you for letting me know about the new portal … fascinating to see our household’s water usage by day and by hour … very useful!”
