AWS Educate, Texas Secretary of State Ruth Hughs, Senator Royce West, educational leaders, and workforce development groups announced a new cloud degree initiative to help prepare students for cloud computing job opportunities. The collaborative initiative will scale to create pathways to in-demand, technology careers for students across the state of Texas.

On September 15, Amazon Web Services (AWS) held its third annual AWS Summit in Bahrain – the first summit since the new Middle East AWS region launched in August. More than 1600 executives and technologists attended to connect, collaborate, and learn about AWS in more than 20 breakout sessions on topics ranging from machine learning, to databases, to workforce development. In the keynote address, Teresa Carlson, VP Worldwide Public Sector, AWS, shared regional announcements and welcomed local customers to share their journey on AWS. Using AWS Educate to skill up for a job

After ten years in retail, Bode Popoola saw his future in technology and decided to make a career change. Originally from Nigeria, Bode attended the Technological University of Ireland (TUI) in Dublin, Ireland, where he studied computer science and information technology. For his final class project, he focused on cloud computing, and thanks to one of his professors, he learned about AWS Educate. Using his knowledge of cloud computing as well as AWS services to help him prepare, Bode applied for – and got – an internship at Amazon Web Services (AWS). Bode now works as a cloud support associate in Dublin.

AWS Educate collaborates with Bay Area consortium on cloud curriculum

Amazon Web Services (AWS) and a consortium of Bay Area community colleges along with their K12 and California State University partners, launched a regional initiative to prepare students for jobs in one of the fastest-growing, and highest-paying, areas in the technology field: cloud computing. The schools include City College of San Francisco, Canada College, De Anza College, Evergreen Valley College, Foothill College, Las Positas College, College of San Mateo, Mission College, SIATech High Schools and Skyline College.

AWS Educate secondary school content now available in six languages

The Cloud Inventor and Cloud Explorer courses of AWS Educate, built for students aged 14-18*, are now available in five additional languages: French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, and Italian. With the addition of these languages, more students than ever have access to content that will introduce them to cloud-based concepts and technologies.

Preparing youth in the UAE for the future of work

The World Bank, in collaboration with Amazon Web Services (AWS), and the Abdulla Al Ghurair Foundation for Education (AGFE), hosted the Skills for The Future Initiative (SFI) at Zayed University in Dubai on June 19th and 20th. The program introduced the next generation of technology leaders in the United Arab Emirates to the skills needed to prepare them for the jobs of the future. The two-day training bootcamp attracted students from 12 institutes who learned about the changing nature of work and received introductory training on cloud technology leveraging AWS Educate resources.

Three major AWS Educate cloud degree announcements

Building off of momentum on AWS Educate’s Cloud Degree initiative from last year, including the launch of the 19-school California Cloud offering and the cloud degree launched last year with Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA), AWS Educate has been working around the world to bring cloud opportunities to students from the US to the UK.
