How Zocdoc is Using AI to Schedule Your Next Doctor’s Appointment

When Zocdoc‘s patients told the startup that insurance was confusing, the company decided to build an insurance-checker product. The product allowed the patient to scan their insurance card, and then Zocdoc extracted the relevant details from the card to check in real time with the patient’s insurance company to see whether a particular doctor for a particular procedure was covered. To their surprise, extracting the data from the insurance cards was more difficult than they assumed and required AI. Watch as Serkan Kutan, Zocdoc’s CTO, explains how they were able to build a deep learning model and train their neural network to achieve a high accuracy level.
