AWS Week in Review – February 9, 2015

Let’s take a quick look at what happened in AWS-land last week:

Monday, February 9	We added AWS Customer Succcess Stories from Financial Times, FreeCharge, Freshdesk, NuBank, and WebMotors. We launched Tagging for ElastiCache Clusters and Snapshots. AWS Evangelist Ian Massingham posted a new What is Cloud Computing Video. A post on the Stelligent Blog talked about Continuous Delivery Tools in AWS We Use.
Tuesday, February 10	I wrote about Box Enterprise Key Management – Powered by AWS CloudHSM. We announced an AWS Config Update – New Regions, CloudTrail Support, ServiceNow. We announced that you can Simplify Your DynamoDB Queries Using Secondary Index Scans. We announced that you can now Run Amazon CloudSearch on Higher Performance M3 Instances. A post on the AWS DevOps Blog showed you how to Use a Creation Policy to Wait for On-Instance Configurations. A post on the AWS Windows and .NET Developer Blog discussed the Preview of Automatic Pagination of Responses in the AWS SDK for .NET. A post on the Cloud Academy Blog presented a Guide to Understanding Nested CloudFormation Stacks. A story on the AWS Startup Collection told the story of how DataRobot Leverages AWS for Predictive Marketing. A post on the Cloudlytics Blog discussed Deriving Operational Intelligence from JSON Log Files to Secure Your AWS Infrastructure. A post on the Cloudability Blog asked Are You Wasting Money on Unused Reserved Instances? Sid Sharma shows you How to Upload the Security Certificate and Terminate SSL at AWS ELB for your Website. The N2W Software Blog published Part 2 of a post that showed you how to Backup and Restore Your Microsoft SQL Server on AWS Cloud.
Wednesday, February 11	We delivered a Route 53 Update, with Tagging, CloudTrail Support, One-Click Alarms, and Visible Health Check Status.
Thursday, February 12	An Elastic Load Balancing Security Update Disabled the RC4 Cypher Suite. We launched Managed Policies for AWS Identity & Access Management. A post on the AWS Ruby Development Blog reviewed the Amazon DynamoDB Document API in Ruby. This post (Part 1) covered Projection Expressions. A post on the Evident.io Blog covered the first of Top 10 AWS Security Best Practices – Disable Root Account API Access Key. A post on the Cloud Academy Blog talked about Working with WaitCondition on AWS’s CloudFormation. We updated the AWS SDK for Java, the AWS SDK for JavaScript, the AWS SDK for .NET, the AWS SDK for Ruby, and the AWS Tools for Windows PowerShell. The AWS Partner Network Blog highlighted New AWS Test Drives Available from APN Consulting Partners Strafford Technology and Vision33.
Friday, February 13	New products added to the AWS Marketplace include Retina Eye English Language Processing, Geopulse Outpost, Idyl Extraction Engine (Place Entities), and Univa Grid Engine (Compute Node and Head Node). A post on the AWS Startup Collection provided an AWS Startup Spotlight on Iterable, Yik Yak, Mortar Data, and Conductor. A post on the Trek10 Blog covered Our Experience at the AWS Annual Sales Kickoff. We updated the AWS Command Line Interface (AWS CLI). A post on the AWS Big Data Blog talked about Using LDAP via AWS Directory Service to Access and Administer Your Hadoop Environment. I recorded Episode #99 of the AWS Podcast. This episode includes a review of the latest AWS news and some thoughts on customer-powered innovation.
Saturday, February 14	A post from CloudWedge reviewed Cloud Based Desktop Hosting Services.
