Storing data with AWS Partner solutions and Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval

Amazon Simple Storage Service (Amazon S3) offers a range of storage classes which are purpose-built to provide the lowest cost storage for different access patterns, and virtually any use case. Today, customers are accumulating petabytes of archive data that is only accessed occasionally and often stored indefinitely, where the data must be highly available and immediately accessible when requested. Previously, these customers would choose between storing this data in the Amazon S3 Standard-Infrequent Access (S3 Standard-IA) storage class if they required rapid retrieval of data or the Amazon S3 Glacier Flexible Retrieval (formerly Amazon S3 Glacier) storage class if they were willing to tradeoff longer retrieval times (minutes to hours) to get the lowest storage cost. Some customers want a combination of the lower storage cost offered by Amazon S3 Glacier Flexible Retrieval and the fast retrieval of Amazon S3 Standard-IA, so they can meet their performance requirements more cost effectively.

Earlier today, AWS launched Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval, a new Amazon S3 Glacier storage class that helps you address this need by delivering the lowest cost storage for long-lived, rarely accessed data that requires milliseconds retrieval. This new storage class delivers the same latency and throughput performance as the Amazon S3 Standard and Amazon S3 Standard-IA storage classes. Like Amazon S3 Standard-IA, Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval is designed for 99.9% availability and 11 9s of data durability by redundantly storing data across a minimum of three physically separated AWS Availability Zones. With Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval, AWS Partner Network (APN) Technology Partner storage solutions can provide a lower cost storage option for customers that require immediate access to long-lived, rarely accessed archive data.

In this post, we share how this new storage class will benefit customers by empowering AWS Storage Partners with a unique combination of cost and performance to enhance the capabilities of their solutions.

AWS Partner storage solutions

AWS and AWS Storage Competency Partners in the AWS Partner Network provide primary storage and data protection solutions that use Amazon S3 as a durable and scalable storage service for storing file system and backup data. The Amazon S3 archive storage classes provide cost effective data storage and simple data recovery, and reduce the need to provision and maintain on-premises infrastructure. By using Amazon S3, you can scale your storage resources to meet fluctuating needs with 11 9s of data durability.

APN Storage partners who already support Amazon S3 will soon integrate with Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval to give you an easy way to take advantage of its economics and other benefits. Here’s what some of our APN Advanced Technology and AWS Storage Competency Partners are saying about Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval.

Cohesity (1)

Cohesity radically simplifies data management. We make it easy to protect, manage, and derive value from data – across the data center, edge, and cloud. We offer a full suite of services consolidated on one multicloud data platform: backup and recovery, disaster recovery, file and object services, dev/test, and data compliance, security, and analytics – reducing complexity and eliminating mass data fragmentation. Cohesity can be delivered as a service, self-managed, or provided by a Cohesity-powered partner.

“Cohesity manages critical data for some of the largest global enterprises. We are thrilled with Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval as it delivers low-cost storage with immediate access for customers using our next-gen data management solutions,” said Matt Waxman, VP of Product Management at Cohesity. “Many of our customers need to retain data long term for security and compliance reasons, but also need to restore the data quickly in case of a disaster or ransomware attack. The combination of low cost and immediate access to archived data are benefits that we believe are very appealing to Cohesity’s customers.”

Commvault (1)

Commvault is an industry-leading enterprise data protection and management company, serving over 100,000 organizations and recognized as a leader in the Gartner Magic Quadrant for Enterprise Backup and Recovery Solutions for 10 years running. Commvault’s Intelligent Data Services help organizations to drive efficiency by transforming how they protect, store, and use data – regardless of where it lives or how it’s structured – all from a single pane of glass.

Rahul Pawar, Global Field CTO and Strategy at Commvault, says, “Customer-focused innovation is at the core of our collaboration with AWS, and with the new Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval storage class, we will be able to offer customers greater flexibility and cost efficiency in how they manage and store their long-term backup and archival data through our Intelligent Data Services platform.”

Druva (3)

Druva enables cyber, data, and operational resilience for every organization with the Data Resiliency Cloud, an industry-leading SaaS solution that radically simplifies data protection, streamlines data governance, and delivers data visibility and insights. Druva is trusted by thousands of enterprises, including 60 of Fortune 500, to make data more resilient and accelerate their journey to the cloud.

“AWS’ focus on continuous innovation enables Druva to help customers radically simplify data protection, streamline data governance, and accelerate their cloud adoption,” said Stephen Manley, CTO, Druva. “The Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval storage class will be a welcome addition to the Druva Data Resiliency Cloud’s auto-storage tiering capabilities and has the potential to bring customers even greater storage efficiency for their archived data with near-instant retrieval. As customers prepare for growing data footprints, reliable and cost-efficient storage options are important to be able to continuously optimize cost.”

Komprise (3)

Komprise, named Best Enterprise Data Management Solution by New World Report in November 2021, is the intelligent data management solution that frees you to analyze, mobilize and access file and object data across AWS.

“As customer use cases evolve, the demand for near instantaneous access to archived data increases,” says Mike Peercy, CTO, Komprise. “Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval adds even more value to customers and is an excellent fit for those in data-intensive industries such as insurance, higher education, and life sciences.”

MSP360 (1)MSP360 provides simple and cost-effective solutions for data protection and end point protection with full management for Managed Service Providers and IT departments. MSP360’s target market includes healthcare, insurance, and financial services, and the MSP360 solutions simplify IT management, enabling secure and scalable storage solutions with easy endpoint management.

Brian Helwig, CEO of MSP360, says, “With the addition of Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval, we can deliver more cost savings for our healthcare, financial, and insurance customers with long-term archive data that needs immediate access. Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval will integrate with Unified Billing to help our customers meet their business needs in a cost-effective way.”

Nasuni (1)

Nasuni is a file services platform built for the cloud, powered by the world’s only global file system. Nasuni consolidates Network Attached Storage (NAS) and file server silos in cloud storage, delivering infinite scale, built-in backup, multi-site file synchronization, and local file server performance, all at half the cost of traditional file infrastructures.

“Amazon S3 Glacier Instant Retrieval will enable our customers to leverage an even more cost-effective object storage class for their rarely accessed file data, reducing the total cost of ownership for our customers,” said Russ Kennedy, Chief Product Officer at Nasuni. “With Amazon S3 Glacier Instance Retrieval, we can provide fast access to file data through our Edge caching, all without compromising the best-in-class protection and recoverability customers get with Nasuni. This is why we designed Nasuni from the beginning to uniquely use object storage as the authoritative source of all file data, metadata, and snapshots – so we could quickly support new services and innovations like the new Amazon S3 storage class with nothing more than a qualification cycle.”

Rubrik (1)

Rubrik provides data security and data protection on a single platform, including Zero Trust Data Protection, Ransomware Investigation, Incident Containment, Sensitive Data Discovery, and Orchestrated Application Recovery.
