As part of our “10 Years of Success” series, we’re celebrating 10 years of the AWS Partner Network (APN) by highlighting AWS Partners who have grown with us over the past decade.

Next, we’re featuring Omegapoint, an AWS Advanced Tier Services Partner and leading consulting company specializing in cybersecurity and cyber-secure digitalization.

Founded in 2001, Omegapoint combines high-quality system development, security expertise, and agile methods to drive customer innovation.

In keeping with its mission of continuously taking IT to a higher level, Omegapoint leverages experience in digital transformation from over 500 consultants to help customers develop secure architecture, systems, and applications.

Q&A with Omegapoint

We spoke with Emanuel Hjertzén, AWS Community Lead and Co-Founder of Omegapoint, about Omegapoint’s work and accomplishments, as well as how its business has grown with Amazon Web Services (AWS) over the last 10 years.

AWS: Ten years is a long time in the tech world. What changes have you seen in your customers and/or your industry during that time?

Emanuel Hjertzén: The demand for fast change and evolvement of IT solutions has increased enormously. In parallel, the requirements for security and availability of IT systems have increased. There has also been a tremendous growth in IT threats—for instance, ransomware attacks.

Our response is “Omegapoint – secure to evolve.” We help our customers secure their systems, IT infrastructure, and development processes; enabling them to evolve quickly without losing control of security. Cloud is an important enabler for this that also requires new skills and ways of thinking about security.

During this time, cloud computing grew from something that large organizations considered not fit for business-critical systems, or just interesting for development and testing, to something that’s become a major priority for most companies. At the same time, cybersecurity was once a topic that CIOs and CSOs would fight hard to get prioritized. Now, it has become a primary requirement in any organization.

AWS: What are some challenges you’ve had to overcome, and how has your business transformed and adapted to resolve them?

Emanuel: In the beginning, the major challenge was cloud awareness. Was this new technology really new and relevant? Was it secure to use for business-critical solutions? In recent years, however, the major challenge has been compliance. Is public cloud compatible with European legislation?

We worked with AWS to mitigate these challenges, which requires deep knowledge of both technology and legislation, as well as the ability to advise on these concerns and solutions. For example, we contributed to building AWS ClearStart, a program dedicated to the privacy needs of Swedish public sector organizations that helps simplify compliance with European regulatory security requirements.

AWS: How has partnering with AWS grown or evolved for your business since 2012?

Emanuel: At Omegapoint, we say that we are a culture of knowledge sharing and co-worker empowerment, upon which we built a company. Our relationship with AWS is a fruit of that culture. Back in 2012, our internal tech community spotted that cloud technology would be a game changer, and that security would be a key driver for that change.

Working with AWS has been a catalyst for innovation and education. Ten years ago, AWS was still mostly uncharted territory in Sweden, and competency within the field was packaged or showcased particularly among vendors and consultancy firms. Since then, offering key competency in AWS with proven track records has become a distinguishing factor, both in sales and talent acquisition for Omegapoint.

Today, we are proud to be able to offer our clients a complete portfolio of services for cloud and AWS, structured around three pillars: cloud advisory, cloud implementation, and cloud life cycle management.

AWS: In your opinion, what’s the best part about working with AWS or your most favorite aspect of being an AWS Partner?

Emanuel: We have leveraged the AWS Migration Acceleration Program (MAP) with success and completed a number of AWS Well-Architected Reviews. These programs have increased the visibility of our strong security competence, making it even more sought after in the market.

We’ve facilitated and led several large-scale migrations to AWS, which usually result in a long-term partnership with the customer. The shift to cloud and AWS is not only a shift in technology; it also drives new ways of thinking about security, compliance, organization, development methodology, and more. With a wide range of expertise, we guide customers in many of these areas. Should we not have all the answers, then we leverage our relationship with AWS to provide support.

But the best part about working with AWS is the pleasure and comfort of being able to offer our clients the top-of-the-line in cloud, thereby helping them free up time for evolving and innovating their core business. We believe AWS to be the leader in cloud, especially for a company of developers such as ours.

AWS: What is your fondest AWS memory or experience?

Emanuel: The first AWS re:Invent in 2012 is really what started our journey towards the cloud. The incredible atmosphere of creativity along with Werner Vogels’ no-nonsense approach differentiated AWS and re:Invent from other vendors and vendor conferences at the time. At this point, it was already obvious the cloud changes everything—and Omegapoint needed to be part of the leading edge in the revolution that was to come.

AWS: What do the next few years look like for your organization with AWS? What are you hoping to achieve for continued growth?

Emanuel: Omegapoint is expanding in the Nordics. Our goal is to be the Nordic leader in cloud-native cybersecure application development. We aim to achieve this by working closely with our clients through long-term partnerships.

We believe that in the near future, the vast majority of IT will be driven by public cloud. This is both a fantastic opportunity for our customers, as well as a massive challenge. We want to position Omegapoint as a strategic partner that can leverage these opportunities to meet these challenges.
