Amazon Web Services has a strong commitment to the needs of our customers across sectors in the UK. That's the driving reason why we recently launched a new Region in the London area.

Cities like London are quickly embracing innovation and developing new ways for engaging and serving citizens. From transportation to planning to utilities, cities are using cloud computing to transform the way they interact with citizens and think about their future. Both government and commercial organisations are using the cloud to provide information and deliver services to their customers and citizens.

The London Region is open for business and you can start using it today! If you need additional information about this Region, contact our UK team.

The new Region in London marks our third AWS Region in Europe. AWS customers can use the new London Region to better serve end-users in the UK and can also use it to store data in the UK. For public sector customers, this allows them to deliver secure solutions for OFFICIAL workloads.

Compliance & Connectivity

Compliance & Connectivity

  • For UK OFFICIAL workloads, we have worked with our Direct Connect Partners to ensure that obligations for connectivity to the Public Services Network (PSN) and N3 can be met.
  • Every AWS Region is designed and built to meet rigorous compliance standards including ISO 27001, ISO 9001, ISO 27017, ISO 27018, SOC 1, SOC 2, SOC3, PCI DSS Level 1, and many more.
  • Our Cloud Compliance page includes information about these standards, along with those that are specific to the UK, including Cyber Essentials Plus.

Learn how to deploy a cloud architecture supporting NCSC and CIS for UK-OFFICIAL workloads. The "UK-OFFICIAL on AWS" Quick Start guide sets up a standardized AWS Cloud environment that supports workloads that are classified as United Kingdom (UK) OFFICIAL.This data classification is associated with guidance and controls that help public sector organisations manage risks and ensure security when handling information assets.

Deploy a cloud architecture supporting NCSC and CIS for UK-OFFICIAL workloads

The AWS environment built by the Quick Start aligns with the following guidelines that fall in scope with UK-OFFICIAL:

  • National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) Cloud Security Principles
  • Center for Internet Security (CIS) Critical Security Controls

The Quick Start template automatically configures the AWS resources and deploys a multi-tier, Linux-based web application in a few simple steps, in about 30 minutes. The security controls matrix shows how the Quick Start components map to NCSC and CIS security requirements. Get started »
