US federal civilian agencies essentially impact every citizen and have tremendous opportunity to leverage the latest technologies, including generative artificial intelligence (AI), to fulfill various missions. I’m curious, like many of you, about the opportunities technology provides for federal civilian agencies – from transportation, citizen services, healthcare, and veterans to science, education, energy, and the environment – in today’s current state.

Christian Hoff, director of federal civilian sales at Amazon Web Services (AWS) Worldwide Public Sector (WWPS), is an inspirational and humble trailblazer who has built a lifelong career of serving others and improving lives. He’s thrived through a multifaceted lens as a Lieutenant Colonel (Retired), mentor and mentee alike, and father. If anyone knows how to positively and thoughtfully impact every citizen – full of diverse backgrounds, talents, and challenges – to improve missions and the overall citizen experience as a taxpayer, it’s Christian.

I’m Sarah Storelli, senior global marketing leader for WWPS at AWS, and I’m on a quest to discover the people behind innovations across industries. In the vodcast series AWS Behind the Cloud, I connect with pioneers serving the public sector globally to learn more about how their stories shape and define the way they build and support cutting-edge technologies that help make the world a better place.

In the eighth episode of AWS Behind the Cloud, I sat down with Christian to uncover:

  • If generative AI has a role in federal civilian agencies
  • How federal civilian agencies’ missions are impacting every citizen
  • Who has inspired him throughout his military and civilian life
  • How his military upbringing has influenced him personally and professionally
  • What his favorite Amazon Leadership Principle is, and why
  • What he wants to be known for to future generations

Curious to learn more about Christian’s journey and hear his insights about how generative AI presents endless opportunities for US federal civilian agencies? Watch the latest episode of AWS Behind the Cloud or check it out on AWS LinkedIn.
