A Builder’s Guide to Amazon Chime sessions at re:Invent 2019
At AWS re:Invent 2019, the Amazon Chime session track offers a breadth of new capabilities for web or telecom application developers. Let’s review the two main areas of focus for builders and developers with Amazon Chime in this year’s re:Invent.
New Amazon Chime SDK
The Amazon Chime SDK enables developers to build real-time experiences into their applications by embedding the same audio calling, video calling, and screen sharing and viewing capabilities that power Amazon Chime, an online meeting service from AWS. For example, video calling can be built into a telemedicine or health app to help patients and doctors consult remotely.
If you work an application that can benefit from the addition of live audio calling, video calling and screen sharing, you should plan to attend the following sessions focused on the Amazon Chime SDK.
EUC340 – New Amazon Chime SDK powers collaboration for Mitel & San Diego Padres
Tuesday, Dec 3, 1:45 PM – 2:45 PM– Bellagio, Grand Ballroom 5 Red
In this session, we show you where and how to use this SDK with a detailed demo and code walkthrough. And, hear from Mitel, a leading unified communications provider, on how it is using the Amazon Chime SDK to provide a high-quality collaboration experience to its customers, including the San Diego Padres.
EUC333 – Add audio & video calling to your apps with the Amazon Chime SDK
Wednesday, Dec 4, 8:30 AM – 9:30 AM– Aria, Level 1 East, Joshua 3
In this chalk talk, we explore what you can achieve with the APIs contained within this SDK, backed by Chime’s real-time, global-scale media resources; walk through some real-world examples built with the SDK; and dive deep into questions from the audience.
EUC324 – Add a video help desk to a website with the Amazon Chime SDK
Wednesday, Dec 4, 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM Aria, Level 1 West, Bristlecone 2 – Table 2
The Amazon Chime SDK makes it easy to add audio calling, video calling, and screen sharing features to web applications. In this session, you use the Amazon Chime SDK and the Amazon Chime SDK for JavaScript to add a real-time video help desk to an example website, connecting users in need of assistance to remote support agents. Please bring a laptop.
Amazon Chime Voice Connector
Amazon Chime Voice Connector provides low-cost SIP trunking from on-premises or cloud-based phone systems, with inbound calling, outbound calling, or both. Voice Connector includes features like Amazon Kinesis audio streaming, call detail records, and Amazon CloudWatch integration. Builders can also use Voice Connector to build PSTN calling in their own applications using the Amazon Chime SDK or stream audio for phone call analytics and machine learning.
If you work on developing telecommunication applications for your organization, you can join us in this session to learn about phone call analytics and machine learning.
EUC332 – Nielsen modernizes its PSTN calling with Amazon Chime Voice Connector
Tuesday, Dec 3, 2:30 PM – 3:30 PM– Venetian, Level 3, Murano 3301B
In this chalk talk, you get a real-world account from Nielsen of how and why it moved its high-volume outbound dialing workload from legacy ISDN PRI to modern SIP trunking on AWS using Amazon Chime Voice Connector. We deep dive into implementation details, project timelines, and how Nielsen overcame challenges along the way. You also learn about new Voice Connector features like Amazon Kinesis audio streaming, call detail records, and Amazon CloudWatch integration.
