A recent study, “The Total Economic Impact of Data Integration for the Public Sector,” analyzes the benefits, costs, and best practices associated with data integration. At this year’s re:Invent conference, AWS is introducing Innovation Talks, which are deep dives hosted by AWS thought leaders. Dave Levy, vice president of AWS worldwide public sector, is hosting the session, “Empowering citizens through digital innovation” and will be joined by speakers from the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston, Covered California, and Singapore’s Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG). Justice and public safety experts spoke in a panel at the IMAGINE 2023 conference for education, state, and local leaders. The panelists explored how the AWS Cloud can facilitate collaboration, connection, and communication to support public safety organizations, and they identified three ways cloud technology can help law enforcement work better internally, in partnership with other organizations, and with the people they serve.

AWS India announced that it has received cloud service provider (CSP) empanelment from India’s Ministry of Electronic and Information Technology (MeitY) for cloud services provided using the AWS Asia Pacific (Hyderabad) Region.

Earlier this year, Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union (EU), hosted the fourth edition of the European Big Data Hackathon on AWS. During this year’s event, participants were tasked with developing data analytics tools to build an early warning system using data from credit card transactions to alert of sudden changes in the economy relevant for EU policymakers. Learn how Eurostat leveraged the flexibility and scalability of AWS to allow 24 teams across Europe to compete and build a viable early warning system over four days.

LearnHaem, a nonprofit online educational resource based in Singapore, grew out of a need to make haematology content accessible and inclusive to medical professionals and students around the world. The LearnHaem website, built on AWS, provides one of the largest and most comprehensive collections of no-cost digitized images of microscopy slides and haematology educational content available in Asia Pacific, focusing on blood and blood-related disorders.

From July 11-12, 2023, the IMAGINE: Education, State, and Local Leaders conference from AWS gathered public sector leaders from around the world in Sacramento, CA to reimagine the future of state and local government and education. At the keynote address, Kim Majerus, vice president of global education and US state and local government at AWS, shared stories of education and state and local organizations using cloud technology to provide meaningful services for their communities. Three guest speakers joined the stage to share how they’re using AWS to protect education services against the rising threat of cyber attacks, advance cutting-edge research, promote innovative citizen services, and more.

Max Peterson, vice president of worldwide public sector at AWS, shared announcements, news, and stories of how public sector customers are using cloud technology to make the world a better place at the AWS Summit Washington, DC keynote on June 7. He was joined onstage by two special guests who discussed how they’re using AWS to create cutting-edge innovations that are helping them deliver on their missions and solve global challenges. Deloitte’s Smart Factory Believers program was established as The Smart Factory @ Wichita’s purpose mission and is a collaborative initiative that brings together world-leading organizations, including AWS, Elenco Electronics, the National Math and Science Initiative (NMSI), and others, to help foster new learning opportunities for middle school-aged children in underserved communities. Today, Deloitte and AWS announced an expansion of the program to the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS). Within the next three years, Smart Factory Believers aims to impact more than 1,600 students in the DC metro area.

AWS announced the 2023 cohort of the Halcyon Climate Resilience in Latin America and the Caribbean Fellowship. AWS is sponsoring this fellowship with Halcyon, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit supporting impact-driven startups, to accelerate solutions that address the compounding effects of climate change. The focus of this fellowship is to help 10 innovative startups address the intersection of climate change and social determinants of health to provide more equitable health and life outcomes.
