Singapore’s National University Health System (NUHS) collaborated with Integrated Health Information Systems (IHiS), Singapore’s technology agency for the public sector, to develop the OneNUHS App. The mobile healthcare application extends healthcare services beyond the hospital, providing telehealth services like video consultations with doctors and more. To accelerate time-to-launch, save costs, and support reliable access for Singaporeans, the OneNUHS app uses AWS.

In the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) 2022 Digital Competitiveness Index, Japan ranked 29th out of 63 countries, down one place from last year’s ranking. A 2021 white paper on information and communications by the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications highlighted the gap between urban and rural digital transformation initiatives in Japan, with urban areas making more progress and local areas lagging behind. SkillsFuture Singapore (SSG), a statutory board under the Ministry of Education (MOE), aims to promote a culture of lifelong learning in Singapore and strengthen the country’s ecosystem of industry-relevant training and adult education. SSG provides access to high quality, industry-relevant training, and jobs and skills insights. To power their digital training portal and make sure every Singaporean has access to training resources, education opportunities, and more, SSG uses AWS.

AWS is leading a pilot project to turn the Greek island of Naxos in the Aegean Sea into a smart island. Designed in collaboration with 20 Greek and international companies, the Smart Island project was developed with the support of the Greek government, local authorities, and the US Embassy. The project will leverage advanced AWS Cloud technologies, and will introduce smart solutions for mobility, primary healthcare, and the transport of goods, such as vessel monitoring and reporting from a coastline tower, and the delivery of blood samples and medical supplies via drone.

Japan’s High Energy Accelerator Research Organization (KEK), is a Nobel Award-winning Inter-University Research Institute, and one of the world’s leading accelerator research institutes. To further help researchers understand human biology, AWS and KEK recently announced a collaboration to develop GoToCloud, a KEK-led cloud platform that makes protein analysis faster and more cost-effective, boosting KEK’s research efforts and improving our understanding of disease. This initiative has also accelerated the digital transformation of Japan’s scientific research infrastructure, helping scientists discover new medicines and produce world-class research results using cloud technology.

With the launch of the new AWS Middle East (UAE) Region, AWS is releasing an Economic Impact Study that estimates that the new infrastructure region will support an average of 5,984 full-time jobs annually in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) over the next 15 years through investments of AED 20.1 billion (US $5 billion). The study provides an overview of existing and planned AWS infrastructure investments in UAE, and the economic benefits AWS investments create for the UAE economy. Today, AWS announced the startups selected to participate in the first AWS Defence Accelerator. The 10 finalists brought forward innovative ideas that will help the defence industry enhance its abilities to uncover actionable intelligence to support defence decision making, defend against cyber threats, and support making the defence industry more environmentally sustainable.

Governments across Asia Pacific and Japan (APJ) are taking bold steps to accelerate and simplify the process for public sector agencies to migrate to the cloud and leverage its benefits.
