Gupta, co-founder and chief executive officer (CEO) of HSR.health, explains how healthcare technology (HealthTech) nonprofit HSR.health uses geospatial artificial intelligence and AWS to develop solutions that support improvements in healthcare and health equity around the world.

The Think Big for Small Business (TBSB) program provides AWS Partners with access to AWS Partner Programs, financial incentives, and additional visibility with customers and AWS teams. Since March 2021, more than 500 partners from 41 countries have participated in the TBSB program, and have launched more than 1,200 opportunities with public sector customers. In 2022, Amazon Web Services (AWS) launched the Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative (ASDI) Global Hackathon, part of a new collaboration with the International Research Centre in Artificial Intelligence, under the auspices of UNESCO. Participants were asked to use their creativity, intelligence, and technical skills to build sustainability solutions using data from ASDI on any AWS Cloud services to build solutions that support one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from the United Nations (UN). We connected with Jeff McWhirter, the first place winner, to learn more about his winning project, the Repository for Archiving and MAnaging Diverse Data (RAMADDA).

In 2020, the City of Canton, Ohio set out to build a better, safer, and more connected community. The city worked with government technology (GovTech) company Wi-Fiber, a network infrastructure provider using AWS Direct Connect. Wi-Fiber combined the City of Canton’s wireless hardware, existing copper, and fiber, where available, to connect hundreds of installed devices alongside roadways, intersections, and buildings. In two years, Canton successfully intertwined its legacy infrastructure with Wi-Fiber’s technology to maximize efficacy and minimize cost.

In 2022, the Philadelphia Industrial Development Corporation (PIDC) initiated a pilot project to analyze traffic patterns and provide analytics within the Philadelphia Navy Yard. PIDC employed Rekor Systems, Inc. (Rekor) to bring this pilot project to fruition. Rekor is a global artificial intelligence (AI) technology company and an AWS Public Sector Partner with a mission to provide insights that build safer, smarter, and more efficient cities worldwide through intelligent infrastructure.

Pathology is currently undergoing a transformation. While microscopes still dominate many workflows, digital pathology combined with artificial intelligence (AI) is disrupting the space. AI tools can complement expert assessment with quantitative measurements to enable data-driven medicine. Ultivue is a healthcare technology (HealthTech) company that provides high-quality multiplex immunofluorescence assays and large-scale, AI-based computational pathology—built on AWS.

In early 2020, the Norton Police Department’s (NPD) on-premises, legacy system, failed them for the last time. Lifesaving services were down. To revive them, NPD made the decision to go live on AWS Partner SOMA Global’s public safety platform—six months ahead of the scheduled cutover date. Despite the early deployment, the SOMA platform exceeded expectations, making sure critical emergency call-taking and dispatching continued. Using SOMA also helped NPD cut costs and save time. As part of the Amazon Sustainability Data Initiative (ASDI), AWS invited Seán Lynch, the founder of OpenLitterMap, to share how AWS technologies and open data are helping to solve global challenges like biodiversity loss and plastic pollution with citizen science. Solutions like OpenLitterMap help unlock the potential that a global abundance of technology has for the collection and dissemination of pertinent data that is an instrumental part of positive social change.

Higher education institutions are turning to data to solve challenges, improve efficiency, and create a better student experience. But to obtain the answers institutions need to thrive and better serve students, they often need new technologies. Many universities are upgrading IT systems and investing in state-of-the-art analytics solutions. Case Western Reserve University (CWRU) is one such institution that has taken steps to innovate by creating opportunities for evolution with AWS.
