Coming Soon: The AWS Energy Competency
By Sandy Carter, AWS VP, Public Sector Global Partners and Programs
At Amazon Web Services (AWS), we are committed to supporting the global energy industry in safely meeting the energy demands the world needs today, while accelerating their transition to a more balanced and sustainable energy future.
To meet the rising demand for innovation, the energy industry is accelerating technology adoption such as cloud computing, Internet of Things (IoT), and artificial intelligence/machine learning (AI/ML). These tools can help reduce capital and operating costs while driving efficiency in the operation of oil and gas assets, and the development of a sustainable renewable asset portfolio.
AWS Partners play a vital role in these efforts by supporting our customers worldwide and building, implementing, and integrating technology to enable the transformation of complex business and operational systems. This helps energy companies drive cost reduction and efficiency, and deliver step change innovations that position operators for success as energy portfolios transition to a lower carbon world.
We are excited to pre-announce the AWS Energy Competency Program, which will formally launch in 2021 and introduce AWS Technology and Consulting Partners who have achieved this high-bar designation.
Through the AWS Energy Competency, customers will have access to highly specialized AWS Partners for assistance in accelerating their digital transformation. This designation will introduce best-in-class AWS Partners who completed a thorough technical validation with AWS, and demonstrated repeat success supporting the unique needs of energy customers worldwide.
What AWS Partners Are Doing Now
AWS Partners are helping customers build and implement advanced solutions powered by AWS across the energy industry value chain. This includes geophysical and reservoir analysis, production operations and optimization, pipeline operations, optimization of solar and wind renewable power generation, and more.
AWS Partners support customers around the world that deliver capital and operating cost reductions, improve personnel safety, optimize the output of assets, and diversify their portfolios to establish positions in new renewable energy markets while enabling reduced emissions from operations.
A great example is our work on the development of the AWS Connected Energy platform, which provides visibility into operational technology (OT) data from machines. The platform integrates solutions from AWS Technology Partners, as well as professional deployment expertise by AWS ProServe and AWS Consulting Partners.
The AWS Connected Energy platform enables energy companies to achieve outcomes like digital twin, near real-time process monitoring, connected operations, predictive/prescription maintenance with real-time anomaly detection, and other use cases requiring streaming industrial sensor data and context.
Similarly, AWS Partners like Halliburton Landmark use Amazon Aurora to lower costs and boost performance by up to 30 percent of their industry-leading DecisionSpace OpenWorks exploration and production project data management system.
Another AWS Partner, Emerson, collaborated with AWS on the development and deployment of their Big Loop solution that delivers a step change in the way customers calibrate subsurface models.
How to Join the AWS Competency Program
The AWS Competency Program recognizes AWS Partners that have demonstrated technical proficiency and proven customer success in specialized solution areas, industry verticals, or workloads on AWS.
