States are reevaluating the resiliency, security, and adaptability of their unemployment insurance (UI) systems. The AWS whitepaper, Why Unemployment Insurance Systems Belong in the Cloud, explores lessons learned from the pandemic – and provides opportunities for a path forward. While there’s no one-size-fits-all approach to modernization, we propose five tenets to anchor a vision of modern UI benefits systems and explore the different technical approaches to realize that vision.

Cloud technology provides an opportunity to think differently about the electronic health record (EHR) to provide continuous, superior patient care. A patient’s health is not static, and a health record system is not static. On September 28, 2022, Hurricane Ian made landfall in Southwest Florida. At the request of standby organizations Help.NGO and Information Technology Disaster Resource Center (ITDRC), the AWS Disaster Preparedness and Response team assisted with response operations across a variety of functions in the aftermath of Hurricane Ian.

AWS re/Start is a no-cost, cohort-based, workforce development training program that first launched in the MENA region in June 2021. The program helps individuals build cloud computing skills and connects participants with employment opportunities with local employers. Over one year on from the graduation of the first AWS re/Start cohorts, AWS re/Start congratulates the many program participants, across nine countries in the region, that have launched their careers in the cloud.
